Shiny cellophane and the persona of Aquarius the Waterbearer were a few of the creative touches in the Cosmetology Fashion show, themed "Life is But a Dream", held Oct. 20 at Citrus College.

"Life is But a Dream Slide Show
"Life is but a Dream," the Citrus College cosmetology hair show, was a spectacular display of colors and creativity utilizing clouds of hairspray, rainbow covered make-up, and glitter that sparkled like a disco ball under the stage lights.

More than 50 models with names such as "All That Jazz," "Everyman's Dream," "Tooth Fairy," and "Mistress of Darkness" stepped into the spotlight Thursday night at the Haugh Performing Arts Center.

Their stylists, all cosmetology students, had spent several hours before the show dressing them in elaborate costumes and applying pounds of makeup to best resemble their vision.

In accordance with the theme, the student artists were given a choice: To dress their models with either a "good" dream or "dark" dream theme.

Going the dark route, Kashmir Baker, Silvia Olivares, and Mari Albalouh dressed their model, Julie Mikel, as a "bound and gagged sleeping beauty." The three collaborated to dress, apply makeup and style their model's hair. They spent more than five hours getting their model ready for her debut.

Kellie Howe, Tricia Randall, and Ruth Jara dressed their model, Silvia Filo, as a monicerus, a Greek inspired unicorn.

"It took about four hours to complete," Howe said. "We wanted to do something mythical and keep with the dreamlike theme."

Six judges, with cosmetology background, Carmen Bentancourt, Kendra Cruz, Robert Gonzales, Lynn Lawrence, Christine McConnell, Cosmo Padilla and James Wilson based their evaluations on overall fantasy look, creativity and attention to detail.

It took them three hours of strict judging before the show started to present their awards.

Third place went to "Marilyn Monroe," modeled by Cassie Spencer, hair and makeup by Kristin Sullivan. She wore the infamous Marilyn Monroe "white dress" along with her platinum blonde hair, ruby red lipstick, and mole accent.
