The head coach of the softball team (22-21-1), (12-10) is proud of her players' performance and teamwork throughout the season.
The team finished fifth in the Western State Conference out of seven teams. Bakersfield finished with a record of (29-8), (20-3), and was ranked first in the conference standings.
"They've adjusted when they need to and stepped up when they need to," said head coach Jackie Boxley. "They've improved immensely, and they've really worked hard at it."
"We don't have one person that we just rely on for everything," Boxley said. "We have 13 kids, and we've needed them for every game, every practice, everything."
Citrus also may have gained a few new rivals this season, she said.
"We beat L.A Valley two out of three times and we beat them when they were in the top 15," she said.
"We did pretty decent," said centerfielder Jenny Strycula. "We only had four wins last year, and we have a lot more this season. Everyone had her key moments, so it was a team effort and everyone did their jobs"
Strycula finished the season with a .310 batting average.
"I enjoyed playing for coach this season," she said. "I had fun, and I would do it again."
Team chemistry was not a problem this season, according to first basemen Christina Cleveland.
"We had some great pitching and catching duos," Cleveland said. "Pat Chavira and Ashley Barthelme and also Chelsy Colangelo and Barthelme.
"We meshed really well," she said. "You could see that more on the field than anywhere else."
Cleveland finished with a .261 batting average, seven doubles, and 12 runs batted in.
The pitching staff also achieved great numbers, achieving a team E.R.A. of 1.99.
The pitchers also averaged four strike outs a game and had 33 collective strikeouts.
