More than 40 employers were on campus April 20 for the Annual Job Fair ready to inform students of the many job opportunities available to them.
According to Tedd Goldstein, Student Employment Services supervisor who was in charge of the event, this year's job fair was a hit with students.
"This was one of the most successful job fairs that we have had in many years because student attendance was phenomenal," Goldstein said. "In the past years, many employers had attended, but the student turnout was very low. This year was great."
Goldstein said that one of the main purposes behind the event is to simply inform students.
"There are several goals for the job fair," Goldstein said. "One is obviously to connect students to current employment opportunities with a wide variety of employers," Goldstein said.
The list of employers represented restaurants, banks, hotels, the armed forces and theme parks. Recruiters from Olive Garden, Citibank, Hilton Hotels, U.S. Air Force and for the first time ever, Disneyland were in attendance.
"It was interesting to see all of the different jobs out there for us," said Jenny Rodriguez, a Citrus College student. "There were so many out here, and they did a great job answering students' questions."
According to Goldstein, that is another one of the Job Fair's purpose.
"It is for students who may not currently be seeking employment to be able to gather information about employers whom they may be interested in working for in the future," he said.
Rodriguez, who attended the fair for the first time, agrees.
"There are so many options for us," she said. "It is great that the college would come up with an event like this. I hope everybody took advantage of it."
Goldstein says that a job fair benefits both students and employers.
"It allows employers the opportunity to explain their company to students who may not have heard about them before or may not have considered them for employment," he said.
Now in its 12th year, the Job Fair takes about four months to organize. Goldstein has spearheaded the event since 1993.
Planning begins in January when Goldstein formulates a list of employers to invite that he thinks would offer the best opportunities for Citrus College students.
Students who were unable to attend the Job Fair are encouraged to visit the Student Employment Services.
There are approximately 150 jobs posted and ready for students to fill.
In February, 470 students applied for work through the center. Of those 78 jobs were filled. In March, 391 students submitted applications and 61 were placed.
According to Goldstein 70-100 students are placed in jobs montly.
