Citrus College students are encouraged to attend today's college and transfer fair.
More than 30 UCs, CSUs and private four-year institutions will be represented today in the Campus Center Quad to assist students and to answer their questions about the transferring procedure.
The annual Transfer Fair is scheduled to begin at 9:30 a.m. and end at noon.
"This not only a great opportunity for students who are ready to transfer but also for students who are thinking about transferring," said Will Daland, counselor at the Career and Transfer Center and coordinator of the event.
Students who attend the Transfer Fair will be able to speak one-on-one to representatives from the colleges of their choice and collect literature on those colleges.
"We have a wide range of colleges visiting the campus because we want students to know what is out there," Daland said. "This is their chance to explore the many possibilities and gain first-hand knowledge."
Representatives are expected from Cal Poly Pomona, Cal State Fullerton, University Dominguez, UC Riverside, UC Santa Barbara, University of La Verne, Otis College of Art and Design and Cleveland Chiropractic College.
Citrus sponsors at least one Transfer Fair a semester and around 200 students are expected to attend.
"Now and then we have students come back and tell us that the transfer fair was a very useful source for them in that they kept in contact with the college reps and when they transferred, they had someone there to help them get situated," Daland said.
Representatives will be handing out business cards and will set up individual meetings with students interested in learning more about the college and their transfer requirements.
"Our job is to ensure that they are appropriately prepared and that they have everything they need to make educated choices," said Gretchen Anderson, Cal Poly representative. "We are here to help and can only hope that many students approach us with the desire to be informed."
Students may ask about admission requirements, financial aid, majors offered at the college and application deadlines.
"It is very competitive out there, and students need to know exactly what is expected of them if they are going to attend the college of their choice," Daland said.
