Spring Break is only one long week away. You may not have anything planned yet for the week of March 21, but that doesn't have to stop you from partying till you drop.

Southern California is the playground of the nation. You can do many things with $100 in your pocket and a full gas tank.

For your consideration, here are my three top Spring Break choices.

3. Lake Cachuma, located in Santa Barbara, has more than 100 campsites. To rent a basic campsite without running water and outlets is $18 a night per vehicle.

Bring your own food or buy lunch from a nearby mini fast-food restaurant located on the campgrounds. The restaurant sells everything from burgers to tacos and is relatively inexpensive. A meal consisting of a burger, chips and cola costs around $4.

Lake Cachuma offers many attractions that will ensure you have a great vacation: a miniature golf course, hiking trails, lake cruises on a 49-seater pontoon boat, and a swimming pool.

However, this lake does not allow human contact: you cannot swim in it.

Fishing is very popular at Cachuma. The lake is known for large-and-small mouth bass, red ear, blue gill, stripper and trout.

2. Pismo Beach is located about five hours drive north on Highway 1. Pismo Beach includes more than 23 miles of beautiful, non-crowded shore. To rent a campsite at Pismo costs around $40 a night.

Pismo's attractions include ATV, bike, and boat rentals, sea kayaking, surfing, horseback riding, kite surfing, fishing and golfing.

Visitors often see beautiful wildlife, including whales, otters and elephant seals.

The shopping is wonderful. The beach is lined with opportunities ranging from sports shops to clothing shops.

1. Catalina Island is a small tropical retreat in the Pacific Ocean: "Not Just an Island, Another World."

Traveling to Catalina is fun and inexpensive. You can take the Catalina Express Boat for only $49 round trip. During the trip you are likely to see whales, sea gulls and seals.

To camp on Catalina Island costs $12 a night per person at The Little Harbor Campground.

Catalina has many attractions including a casino, a theater, a golf course, snorkeling, kayaking and ocean rafting.

Catalina is a small island full of adventures perfect for your week away.

Spring Break is a time to recuperate and take some time out for you. Don't let this vacation opportunity pass you by. Visit Cachuma, Pismo, or Catalina; you'll be glad you did.
