High Hopes for Democracy in Iraq

When it comes to the Iraqi democratic elections, all the controversy over President Bush's false arguments for going to war in the first place and the question of "Should we be there?" really are not important.
The Iraq elections, in which over eight million Iraqis voted in, are the first step in what will be a long and winding road to establish democracy in the Middle East.
Democracy is the greatest form of government, and that's how the United States has prospered to the point on becoming the strongest, most powerful nation on the planet. Meanwhile empires as the Soviet Union have fallen.
It is a great moment for any country to hold democratic national elections, but even more so for Iraq.
Many of our far left congressmen who were outspoken in opposition to the war were proven wrong. However in the hours following the election, John Kerry went on Hardball, the MSNBC political show and said we cannot make too much of this election.
It's really sickening that the Liberals of today will go this far to spark a political debate.
When the United States First started their democracy, things were not running smoothly. Many were not happy with the Articles of Confederation, which was the document before the Constitution, and it sparked Shay's Rebellion, in which a group of radicals tried to overthrow the government only to be stopped by George Washington and his troops.
Iraq needs to be wary of the same pattern and be ready. At some point in the near future the United States will pull out and Iraq will need to find its own way.
President Bush knew the time was right to free Iraq from bondage and let establish a democracy, a huge reason he started Operation Iraqi Freedom in the first place.
The ball is in Iraq's court now. The Iraqi people will be the ones who decide if their democracy is a success or failure. America wishes them all the best.
