Still going strong at 90 years young, entertainment personality Art Linkletter will present his latest book, "Old Age is Not For Sissies," on Sunday at 2 p.m. in the Haugh Performing Arts Center.
Linkletter has been a television and radio personality for more then 60 years. He has performed in two of the longest running shows in broadcast history: "House Party," which ran on CBS TV and radio for 25 years, and "People Are Funny," which ran on NBC TV and radio for 19 years.
He has received numerous awards, including 10 honorary doctorate degrees from colleges and universities for his humanitarian work and his interest in youth.
He has also served on the President's National Advisory Council for Drug Abuse Prevention, wherein his chief interest lies today.
When drug abuse and its tragic consequences hit home with the death of his daughter, his work in the crusade against drug abuse really took off. He writes, speaks and broadcasts from coast to coast in the fight against what he calls the national drug epidemic.
Concurrent with his humanitarian work, Linkletter is also a well-known author. He has written 23 books since 1950, of which "Kids Say The Darndest Things," is best known. It is one of the top 15 best sellers in American publishing history, and was #1 for two straight years in the non-fiction list.
The performance set to run for Citrus College is taken from his book "Old Age is Not For Sissies," in which Linkletter assumes the role of spokesperson for his generation, discussing aspects of aging and opportunities available to senior Americans.
One of the features of "Old Age" is a section titled "Golden Rights of Senior Americans," where Linkletter defines and details what he believes are rights of senior Americans, including the rights to respect and dignity, freedom from abuse, good nutrition and travel.
Linkletter extends his warm and witty humor to "Old Age" through his thoughtful discussions of the feelings that accompany aging and provides sound and practical advice to help his fellow senior Americans choose brighter futures.
He will perform alongside comedienne Nanette Fabray, star of Broadway, television and film.
Citrus' Blue Note Swing Orchestra will provide the music when these two show business legends appear at the HPAC.
Linkletter will open the performance and speak to the audience, followed by jazz routines performed by Fabray set to the background music of the Blue Note Swing Orchestra.
Tickets for the performance can be purchased at the HPAC box office Monday through Saturday, 11 a.m. to 4 p.m., or one hour prior to the performance. Ticket orders may be charged to Visa, MasterCard, Discover or American Express by calling (626) 963-9411, Monday through Saturday, 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. There is a $3 service charge on all phone orders.
