GWEN STEFANI - LOVE.ANGEL.MUSIC.BABY

Gwen Stefani's album Love. Angel. Music. Baby is a great, fashion-conscious solo debut.
The album also reflects Stefani's eclectic taste in music; from '80s New Wave to Hip Hop bass beats.
"What Are You Waiting For," the lead single, is a groovy New Wave killer of a track that triggers a revival of a band from the '80s, The Missing Persons.
The single blends easily with the electroclash movement that has been going strong since 2003.
The following track "Bubble Pop Electric" is one of two collaborations from Andre 3000 in the album. The song could have easily been part of Andre 3000's Hip-Hop group Outkast last album, Speakerboxxx/ The love Below.
The album has Andre trademark sound all over: the quirky synth in the background, the fun danceable tunes, and the addition of a drum kit instead of a drum machine and some guitar licks.
"The Real Thing" is a clone from the band New Order. The single melody lead guitar surrounded with layers of electro synth tunes builds a cool, charming harmony.
"Harajuku Girls" is a '80s ballad reminiscent of the band Human League and early productions of Janet Jackson outputs.
The album also goes '80s Hip Hop with tracks such as "Crash" inspired by the girl group Salt-N-Pepa and the thumping, minimal beats of "Hollaback Girl."
The closer is "Long Way To Go," an intoxicating song full of exhilarating hooks and stylish melodies. Andre 3000, the second half of the band Outkast, plays a major role in the production of this song.
If this were 1988, this album could have changed the course of pop music. But this is 2005. Nevertheless, the album is a tribute to the '80s, the decade of decadence in music. - Manny Caballero
