Lights, camera, action! Hollywood comes to Citrus College in the form of a legendary actress/singer.
Debbie Reynolds, 72, will perform Sunday at 2 p.m. the Haugh Performing Arts Center. This concert will be one of 19 shows on her nationwide tour.
The show is mainly about her life as a dancer/actress/singer. It is a flashback to her "glory days."
Reynolds may not be familiar to most Citrus College students, but she has starred in many Hollywood films and is still popular with older generations.
Mary Frances Reynolds was born April 1, 1932, in El Paso, Texas. Her family then moved to Burbank, California in the 1950s.
When she was 16 years old, she entered the a local beauty pageant and won the title "Miss Burbank of 1948."
Reynolds wanted to be a gym teacher before Warner Bros. signed her to be with the studio. Jack Warner then gave her the stage name "Debbie."
After doing two films with Warner Bros., the studio dropped her, and she signed with MGM. MGM helped Reynold's career take off.
Reynolds has made 49 movies, including Rugrats in Paris: The Movie (2000), Virtual Mom (2000) and These Old Broads (2001).
Singin' in the Rain (1952) was one of the most popular films she has made. It is still considered by many to be "the best motion picture musical of all time."
Besides doing concerts and films, Reynolds has done cameos on television shows including The Love Boat, The Golden Girls and Roseanne.
She is also a member of the guest cast on the comedy sitcom Will and Grace, where she plays the role of Grace's mother.
She was nominated for an Academy Award in 1964 for her performance in the movie Unsinkable Molly Brown.
In March 2003, she received the Lifetime Achievement Award at the 82nd Hollywood Chamber of Commerce Annual Awards Luncheon
Reynolds may be famous for being Carrie Fisher's (Star Wars princess) mom, but she is even more famous for being herself, for her long life and successful career.
Tickets are on sale right now at the Haugh Performing Arts Center. Section 1 of the theater has already been sold out. Section 2 tickets cost $40. For students/seniors the cost is $37.
