Many people may not like to read unless their work or school requires it, but a certain book will change that.
This past summer, I read The DaVinci Code. This book has been on the New York Times best-seller list for more than 26 weeks.
It has been the center of criticism, praise and controversy.
So why is it so interesting?
The DaVinci Code intrigues the reader with many interesting innuendos about the controversial world of religion, such as the theory of Jesus being married to Mary Magdalene. Its premise is that art if full of unspoken secrets.
Even though this book is fiction, the reader cannot help but wonder whether the ideas presented are actually based on facts.
The DaVinci Code is about a symbologist named Robert Langdon who becomes entangled in solving the case of the mysterious murder of a museum curator.
Langdon and Sophie Neveu, the granddaughter of the murdered museum curator, solve the murder by following various clues found in famous paintings.
In the end the reader is rewarded with the revelation of a secret that he or she would have never expected to find out.
The author, Dan Brown, uses powerful story-telling techniques that give information to build up the suspense, yet hold back the outcome for the next chapter.
Brown's use of suspense hooks the reader so that he or she reads more and more pages to find out what happens next.
This book is one that will stick in the reader's mind because of its story-telling style, its powerful imagery and its convincing rhetoric.
It also makes the reader open his or her mind to other explanations or interpretations about controversial issues.
There is also word that a movie based on this book is in the works.
The expected release date of the movie will be in the year 2005 and Ron Howard will direct it.
On a movie website, Russell Crowe was named as one of the actors who will have a starring role in the movie.
Rumored to also have starring roles are Kate Beckinsale, Tom Hanks, George Clooney and Hugh Jackman.
