They didn't have an extraordinarily great season, nor did they have an awesomely disappointing season.
So, what exactly did go on this season?
Aside from the unexpected success of freshmen swimmer, Erin Robinson, this group of swimmers really didn't have much success out on the waters. They could have performed much better, but then again, they could have also performed so much worse.
"The team did okay. Erin was the only one who actually made it to state," said 20 year-old diver, Resa Smith, who will be graduating this May with an associate's degree in physical education and language arts.
The woman's team is now looking back at this past season, and brainstorming how they could do for better outcomes in the upcoming seasons. In this sport, however, neither the coach nor the players know what to expect for the next season, much less how to plan for it.
As with every team, there will be people who come in with the resolve to succeed as a swimmer, but find out that they were not cut out for college level athletics. Or, more often than not, swimmers who had not planned to compete will join the team.
"Every season is different," said Smith. "Each year you get a different group of people to work with, and you just have to wait and see what you end up with."
As of right now, everything is pretty much in
the air, and who will be returning for next season is uncertain.
The only thing that's certain is that the women's swim team at Citrus College has a goal, and they are determined to achieve it.
Next year, they will train longer and harder hours in order to perform well in conference and make it to the finals. Once there, they hope to place high enough to go on to the state championships, where they will seek to not only repeat Erin Robinson's success, but also match it as a team.
