The Citrus College campus reopened today after being closed yesterday due to a power outage that resulted from the high winds.

Alerts were sent out the morning of Dec. 1 to students, faculty and staff that are registered with Citrus Alert informing them that the campus was closed.

Students who are not registered with Citrus Alert arrived to campus to find it deserted.

Gerardo Lopez of El Monte was one of those students.

The power was out in his city so he drove to school to finish his sociology essay.

He saw no cars but saw the signs put up by Campus Safety informing students that the school was closed and to call their office if they had any questions.

"I came here to work on my essay because the power is out at my house," Lopez, 19, said.

The maintenance staff worked to clear the fallen branches and leaves that we're strewn around campus. Part of a pine tree fell on the Liberal Arts/Business Building and workers were busy sawing it into smaller pieces.

Today in the six o'clock hour another alert was sent out informing subscribers that "electrical power has been restored, all scheduled classes will be taught, and all business offices will be open."

No property damage has been reported.
