The cosmetology and photography students and faculty joined forces to create a night of student art that will be on display until Dec. 1.
"Tease Me" opened on Nov. 17 and features a gallery filled with photos taken by photography students, doll heads and live models with hair and makeup designed by the cosmetology students.
The student work that was displayed by the students is both creative and clever.
Cosmetology student Jessica Francoeur, 19, turned her model Samantha Espinoza, 19, into a colorful "Mad Hatter Raver."
"I actually hope to style Lady Gaga's hair and do her makeup and become an event artist/stylist," Francoeur said.
Cheyanne Haserjian, 19, also used a live model. Guella Lichordbic, 19, was made over with an eye-catching hairstyle and half of her face was covered with a black-stenciled mask.
"We knew we wanted to do something involving a mask, we did something like that for the photo shoot and it worked really well," Haserjian said.
Haserjian is aspiring to get a job at Disneyland, doing hair and wig up-dos and makeup for the princesses.
"We have in the past talked a lot about trying to get an academic integration project going," said photography professor Darrell Carr.
The instructors are trying to create a "marriage between the two disciplines," he said. "Photography needed people to photograph and cosmetology will always need pictures of the work that they do, for when they applying for jobs and display work," Carr said.
They are trying to make a plan that will fully prepare students for future job interviews.
The departments plan to move forward with their idea this winter session for the night classes. They want to have photo shoots and to display the students' work on a regular basis.
"The main focus of linking these departments are going to be the use of portfolios, photo shoots, doll heads and displays," cosmetology instructor Salvador Hernandez said.
Hernandez goes on to say, "I am in the process of inviting friends I worked with in special effects to come in, maybe do some work, maybe judge a little bit."
A lot of things are being planned by these departments as they try to get their students ready for careers after their college certificate.
The "Tease Me" gallery is currently open until Dec. 1. Library hours are Monday through Thursday 8 a.m. to 8 p.m.
