The memorial for former Citrus student, Kendric McDade, took place Apr. 6 with the funeral services taking place the next day. The viewing was at Mountain View Cemetery in Altadena and the funeral began at 10 a.m. the next day at Metropolitan Baptist Church also in Altadena. Both family members and Azusa classmates were in attendence, with eulogies made by friends and Azusa High school football coaches. The funeral procession followed to Rose Hills cemetery in Whittier where McDade’s body was laid to rest. During the procession, the driver of a black SUV who was also an attendee of the services cut out of the lane, causing one of the motorcycle officers maintaining the procession to swerve off the 605 southbound freeway and crash. The officer suffered injuries that included broken ribs, but was said to be in stable condition. The services were for McDade, 19, who was shot and killed by Pasadena police officers on March 24, following a 911 call that was later admitted to be a false report.
