When I started writing this column, I wasn’t sure what to expect.
Would readers take my advice seriously? Would they even read a column titled “Ask a Blonde?” Would they think I was completely crazy?
I wasn’t sure of the answers, but I took a chance regardless. Because that’s what life is about: taking chances. We only get one chance at life, one opportunity to chase our wildest dreams.
I recently made a new friend and when he asked me what I was studying to be, I sarcastically replied, “a princess.”
Which is mostly true. I mean, who doesn’t want to be a princess when they grow up?
I have seen “The Princess Diaries” enough times to know that if it can happen to Anne Hathaway, it can happen to just about anyone.
But when I really think about exactly what I want to accomplish, I can’t put my finger on just one thing. I have my hand in a lot of cookie jars, so to speak. But who says I have to make a decision right now?
I have been implementing a different philosophy for quite some time now. It seems to be working for me, so I figured I would share my insight.
Be a little indecisive. Don’t settle. Take it one day at a time and really think about where you want to be in a few years.
Maybe you see yourself saving lives in a hospital. Or maybe you imagine traveling around the world. Or maybe you envision opening up your own restaurant.
When we slow things down and really think about what we want in life, we are able to appreciate it more.
I felt like I disappointed my parents when I told them it would take me longer than four years to graduate with my bachelor’s degree.
It was hard to accept at first, watching friends graduate before me, but I learned that I am my own person and that I have to do things at my own speed.
Where I have been, what I have done, and who I have met has led me to a better understanding of what I want out of life.
It’s OK that I don’t know what exactly the future has in store for me. What matters most is that I am working toward a goal that I am determined to reach.
So do whatever it is you want to do. Go skydiving. Or go to law school. Or open up your own business.
Whatever chances you choose to take, surround yourself with positive, supportive people, and you will already be closer to your goal than you realized.
