Board repeals lifetime benefits

Two sweeping changes were made to campus policies by the Citrus Community College Board of Trustees at its Nov. 20 meeting.   During the previous meeting of the board Oct. 16, Citrus College Faculty Association president John Fincher presented the board with two ultimatums regarding lifetime health care and use of campus resources. Easygoing employee starts anew

For 24 years, the doors to Pamela McGuern’s various offices have always been open.   Now, after nearly a quarter-century of service, McGuern will be closing the doors for the first and final time. It will be a bittersweet moment for McGuern, who says that her daily interactions with students and the Citrus College community are what have kept her going. Full story

Fighting Owls find old swag

After already surpassing last season’s loss total, the Owls men’s basketball team seems to have recaptured some of the magic from the program’s 2011-12 Final Four run.   Despite an early 17-point deficit, an abundance of turnovers and abysmal outside shooting, the Owls (5-4) pulled out a 90-81 comeback road win over the El Camino College Compton Center Tartars (4-2) Nov. Later you discover your dream school rejected you not because your grades and SAT scores were too low, but because other equally qualified students who are underrepresented minorities got the seat instead.   • Campus safety has hands full with crime increase

      According to the newly released 2011 crime statistics, Citrus College recorded an increase in criminal offenses reported. All of the criminal offenses cited in the annual crime report occurred within the property limits of Citrus College. The number of combined drug and alcohol offenses reported in the 2011 school year is nearly twice that of the previous four years combined.

  • Swim team is finally back in the water

      After two years of being held under water, the women’s swim team finally has a chance to emerge once again. With Andrew Silva as the new head coach things are finally starting to look up for this department. He plans to reboot the program for the Fighting Owls starting in spring 2013.
